Day 20: Lorde – Sober.

Friday 9th June.

That time of the week has come around quickly, and once again New Music Friday has delivered an array of delights. New albums from London Grammar, Anathema and Katy Perry have been duly delivered, and new singles from the likes of Manchester Orchestra, Jorja Smith and Oh Wonder have found their way onto streaming sites. Also released today though, is the brilliant fourth single from Lorde’s upcoming album, Melodrama. Due to be released next Friday, Melodrama is set to be Lorde’s second album, following up on the breakthrough debut release Pure Heroine.

Today’s single release is entitled Sober, the fourth and most likely final track that we will all get to hear before the album drops on June 16th. In comparison to the other single releases, it is Sober that would be have fitted in most adequately on her debut record. It is fun and dance-worthy, with a surprisingly prominent feature of brass sections in and around the chorus. Sober is a great track, to come along the likes of Perfect Places, Liability and Green Light that have already treated our musical requirements. With only one week to go until Melodrama is released, it is unquestionable that some serious excitement is building around the young New Zealander. Lorde is set to take the world by storm for a second time.
